Poster for Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit

The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, Inc. has a new poster for 2009–the 79th year since the show started in 1931.  The creating of the new poster was generously contributed by graphic artist Robert Mueller, who is also a well known fine artist and Chair of the Salmagundi Club’s Curators Committee.

In making the poster, Bob used a beautiful image of the Washington Square Arch painted by the late John Manship.  This image was originally featured in a WSOAE poster for the Spring Show in 1978.  The image in the new poster was reproduced from the image in the old one.

Measuring 17 x 11 inches, the poster shown here has been placed in various art connected institutions–schools, clubs and art supply stores–with the goal of raising WSOAE’s public presence and attracting to the show new artists and art patrons.

John Manship died in November 2000.  If you would like to read more about him, you can go to  the biography page for John Manship on AskART , which allows non-subscribers access to biographical information on Fridays.  An obituary was published in The New York Times on November 22, 2000.
