2017 Saturday Spring Show Snafu: Here’s what happened…

If people were wondering why the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit (WSOAE) was not in its usual place along University Place on Saturday, June 3, they can thank the New York City Street Artists Permit Office (SAPO) for the snafu.

Late Friday evening, WSOAE Executive Director learned that the Village Fair Expo was also slated to occupy University Place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. As it turns out SAPO had double-booked the street blaming it on a “technical glitch” of their new scheduling system. Rather than create a showdown with the Village Fair Expo, WSOAE decided to do the magnanimous thing and called off its own show and refunding the artists their fee for the day.

WSOAE would like to apologize to the artists who were not able to exhibit their art that day and to visitors who missed out as a result. The show however, went on as planned on Sunday, June 4.
